Edisto Beach State Park in Edisto Island South Carolina has a seasonal position opening for Sea Turtle Specialist. The position would run from April 17th - November 1st.
 
Job Description:
Field work- conduct 6 am patrols to monitor new nesting and hatching activity, mark new nests, excavate hatched nests, relocate endangered nests, protect nests against predators, record all data accurately and completely on data forms in the field.  Assist with stranding’s. Manage the volunteer base.
Educational- Conduct an educational program including a turtle walks three nights per week, along with assist in the Center.

Qualifications:
  • Educational background in Biology, Marine Science, Ecology, or Education
  • Experience in working with nesting Sea Turtles
  • Experience in Data collection.
  • Experience in identification, location, and relocation of Sea Turtle Nests
  • Knowledge in sea turtle biology
  • Must be willing to take responsibilities seriously
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to communicate effective orally and in writing
  • Must be able to handle long hours and physically demanding work
  • Ability to endure extreme summer and outdoors condition (heat, bugs, blowing sand, rain, etc.)
Hours: 40 per week including weekends and holidays. 20-30 hours a week of true sea turtle related work, 10-20 hours of working in the Learning Center and providing programs to park visitors. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights.
 
Compensation: $9.00 an hour with housing included. No benefits are included.
