Job Description: Loggerhead Marinelife Center is seeking a Field Coordinator to assist with current research programs and the management and training of seasonal technicians. This is a temporary part-time position (30 hours per week), with the possibility of extension or conversion to career. The Field Coordinator will work with the Field Operations Manager (FOM) and Data Manager to assist with the North County Palm Beach County Sea Turtle Monitoring project along one of the highest density nesting beaches in the United States. The survey area annually hosts 10,000-13,000 sea turtles crawls.

Job Responsibilities: 
  • Conduct nesting surveys 3-4 days per week
  • Assist FOM and Data Manager with training of seasonal technicians and interns
  • Assist with spot checking of data collection and entry by seasonal field technicians
  • Assist FOM and Data Manager with research projects and data compilation/analysis
  • Maintain compliance with contractual agreements
  • Maintain ATVs and other field equipment

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree  in the biological sciences or equivalent experience from an accredited institution
  • Prior experience conducting sea turtle nesting surveys is required and experience conducting nesting surveys on high density nesting beaches is highly desired
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak to the public
  • Must be physically fit and able to work outdoors for several hours in direct sunlight, high heat and humidity.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience operating ATVs

Skills Required:
  • The ideal candidate would be proficient with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS, and Trimble GPS equipment/software.  Proficiency with ArcGIS and Trimble GPS equipment are not required but highly desired.
  • Experience with sea turtle crawl ID to species and nest verification. Experience with loggerhead (Caretta caretta), green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea) crawls is highly desired.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must have excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must have a strong desire to teach skills to others
  • Must be able to work independently, but also must be a team player. 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.


Compensation: This position is paid on an hourly rate basis. No benefits are included.
