Interns Needed for Turtle Trax Sea Turtle Conservation Beach Projects

Turtle Trax is a Costa Rican organization that manages four sea turtle conservation beach projects on the Pacific coast of the Nicoyan Peninsula. We are currently looking for coordinators and research assistants for the upcoming nesting season. Period Coordinators Costa de Oro, San Miguel, Corozalito: June 20, 2014 to December 15, 2014 Caletas: June 20, 2014 to February 28, 2014 Research Assistants 1. All projects: June 20, 2014-September 15, 2014 2. All projects: September 16, 2014-December 15, 2014 3. Caletas only: December 16, 2014-February 28, 2015 Duties Coordinators are responsible for managing all aspects of the project and are expected to stay for the duration of the project season. Research Assistants are responsible for helping the Coordinators in all aspects of the projects and are expected to stay for at least 2.5 months. Duties include nightly beach patrols, nest exhumations, station maintenance, cooking, cleaning, training and caring for volunteers, and talking to tourists. Requirements Preference will be given to potential applicants that meet the following requirements: Coordinators - Previous experience working with sea turtles - Extensive knowledge of patrolling, scientific data collection and hatchery work, including performing excavations of nests - Can speak fluent Spanish and English - Excellent leadership skills - Independence, responsibility and commitment Research Assistants - Conversational Spanish and English - Independent, reliable and responsible - Motivated, positive and adaptable to unexpected situations. - Able to undertake physical labor during night and day in extreme weather conditions - Comfortable in an isolated setting and working within a team - Previous experience working in the outdoors (especially with sea turtles). - Strong interpersonal communication skills - Advanced student or recent graduate in biological sciences or related fields Benefits/Costs Coordinators are provided with accommodation and meals. Research Assistants must pay a monthly fee that covers their accommodation and meals. Since these costs vary between the projects, the fees differ as well: 1. Caletas: $200/month 2. Costa de Oro: $400/month 3. San Miguel: $450/month 4. Corozalito: $400/month --
